Siliceous microfossils from the lower cambrian of northwest Canada: possible source for biogenic chert.

Round to oval, scalelike siliceous microstructures from cherts in Cambrian limestones of the western Yukon Territory suggest affinity with chrysophycean algae. At least six morphotypes present include porous forms with single branching processes and nonporous oval, ringlike forms. Partially dissolved specimens may indicate a contribution to contemporaneous or early diagenetic chert formation.

Jessica Feldman: Microtubule-organizing function dives off centrosomes

JCB • VOLUME 212 • NUMBER 5 • 2016 484 The microtubules of the mitotic spindle apparatus emanate from, and are organized by, the centrosomes: nonmembrane-bound organelles composed of centrioles embedded in a cloud of pericentriolar material (PCM) that persist throughout the cell cycle. In some cell types, including fibroblasts and many cultured cell lines, centrosomes retain their microtubule-o...

A 2,500-year record of environmental change in Highlands Hammock State Park (Central Florida, U.S.A.) inferred from siliceous microfossils

Analysis of siliceous microfossils of a 79 cm long peat sediment core from Highlands Hammock State Park, Florida, revealed distinct changes in the local hydrology during the past 2,500 years. The coring site is a seasonally inundated forest where water availability is directly influenced by precipitation. Diatoms, chrysophyte statospores, sponge remains and phytoliths were counted in 25 samples...
